2015 Race
On August 15, 2015, Laramie is hosting the 2015 RRCA Wyoming State 10k Championship race with the first annual Laramie Human Rights 10k. This race is a High Plains Harriers (local running club) race.
The Laramie Human Rights 10k is a new race in Laramie and in Wyoming. The 10k course is certified by the Road Runners Club of America and takes runners through the Laramie tree area, past several of the local parks. Start and finish is at beautiful Undine Park in Laramie. Following the race, runners will be served breakfast.
This race is a High Plains Harriers race, and members of this running club receive a $5 discount for registration. All runners will receive a running hat of this race this year. Proceeds of the race support the Wyoming Guatemala Accompaniment Project, a grassroots organization that serves as a sponsoring community for the Network of Solidarity for the People of Guatemala (NISGUA). We work to support Guatemalan human rights defenders and are committed to solidarity with communities resisting resource extraction and working for justice for genocide. We use a grassroots fundraising model and depend entirely on the contributions of individuals and groups who share our commitment to solidarity with indigenous people whose human rights are being violated. We are currently sponsoring our second human rights accompanier working in Guatemala to support Mayan human rights defenders: Kayla Myers. Kayla is originally from Wyoming.
